COAGULATION FACTORS IN PATIENTS WITH LUNG CANCER
Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Göğüs Hastalıkları Kliniği, İstanbul
In this project, we aimed to evaluate serum levels of the coagulation factors in lung cancer patients. The relation of the factor levels to the stage and histologic type of the disease and the Karnofsky performance status of the patients were also investigated. Forty-five lung cancer patients and 42 patients with non-cancer lung diseases were involved in the study. Spot analysis of D-Dimer, fibrinogen, platelet count, prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time were performed in all the patients. 62.2% of the cancer patients had increased D-Dimer, 62.2% had increased fibrinogen, 24.4% had increased platelet count. D-Dimer and platelet counts were significantly higher in the lung cancer patients compared to the non-cancer group, but there was no statistically significant difference in coagulation factors of the lung cancer patients according to the stage or histologic type of the disease or the performance status of the patients. Our results confirm the previous reports that lung cancer patients may be at high risk for hypercoagulability.
