Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fak. Patoloji Ana Bilim Dalı Of the 535 cases originally diagnosed as Hodgkin's disease (HD) in Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Department of Pathology from 1970 to 1986, 485 were histologically re-examined and reclassified. After re-examination 467 cases were regarded to be HD. Of these cases, 315 were males and 152 were females with a male/female ratio 2:1.22.5 %of the total cases were in the pediatric age group (0-14 years). The overall crude incidence rate was 2.1 for males and 1.0 for females. The age-specific incidence curve of HD was bimodal in both sexes with the first peak in the 30-39 age group. Mixed cellularity was the most common histologic type (59.2% in males and 53.9% in females). Its age-specific incidence curve was bimodal with the first peak in the 30-39 age group. The second peak was much higher than the first one. Mixed cellularity was followed by nodular sclerosis (19.5% of the total) which showed a higher percentage (33.8%) in 15-35 age group in females. Lymphocytic depletion type had the highest incidence rate in older ages. In conclusion, the epidemiologic features of HD in Istanbul, Turkey are consistent with Type 2 disease of Correa and O'Conor.
