THE EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTS OF HYPERFRACTIONATED RADIOTHERAPY ON THE BONE DEVELOPMENT BY USING EXPERIMENTAL ANIMALS

Although the effects of radiation on the bone development of children less than 2 years of age is quite much; it also significantly retards the growth in the other pediatric age groups. The bone and the cartilage tissues which are among the late responding tissues to radiation were experimented by hyperfractionated radiotherapy versus standart daily 200 cGy radiotherapy caused less tissue damage and the bone development was in close proximity to normal children which all are consistent with the non-standartised uncertain experimental study results. In this study, the effects of hyperfractionated radiotherapy on the experimental animals-which have ongoing bone development-have been evaluated in the Department of Radiation Oncology in the University of Ankara School of Medicine. As a result, it has been observed that with the hyperfractionated radiotherapy technique diminished developmental impairments are occured.
